Closing 2010 to Welcome 2011

Closing 2010 and Welcome 2011
What is New Year's?
You've all heard of New Year's Resolutions and for some they become goals for the coming year, plans for January or at least a thought for a fleeting moment. ☺
As I enter 2011, with all the changes a new year has to greet me, I must really remember those things that inspire me. I must take the time to embrace life, share a moment, and feed my passions.
Everyone has an answer... answers to your banking and financial future, answers to your marketing and business plans, answers to your cooking and kitchen needs, answers to your body size or performance. Just spend one night and watch or listen to late night TV.... I've watched late night commercials for P90X or other "enhancements" and yes I find myself saying "WHAT THE ???" But wait, there is an answer that is not in their product even during the "limited time to act" promotion, these businesses, people and products are doing one thing in common, they are moving on their ideas, products and programs. Now I am not suggesting anyone dive into late night promotions, HSN, or other magnets to your money. Now on one flip side of this point sits the reality that people are buying this stuff otherwise they wouldn't be continuing the commercials (TV Spots are Expensive), Billy Mays was not a poor man, trust me, he may be dead, but everyone knows this pitchman and people bought what he was pitching. What I am suggesting is this.....
Whatever your passion, Whatever your dream....spend some time reaching out in 2011
Enjoy the gifts of life, make a commitment to a better you.
We all have areas we can improve; if we didn't, we would cease to exist and our jobs would be done, never stop learning.
Put away your arrogance, you only impress yourself and at the end of the day where do you want to be.....
As for me, my 2011 journey is only one chapter and I am excited to share it with you.
~~~Happy New Year~~~
Please remember three things this holiday as you sing your Auld Lang Syne*, be safe, don't drink and drive, and be nice....... Yes, I said nice...... If you have to think about this one, take a moment or two but remember that person you are nice to might just be that person who feeds your passion and enables your dreams.
*Remembering a little history....Auld Lang Syne is the Scottish Poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 referring to "times gone past", "the good old days" and with most New Year's Celebrations as the clock turns 12 the song begins to welcome the new year. Most know the song, however; many don't know the lyrics.
12 Days of Christmas
12 Days of Christmas ~
So you've all heard the song, every day as we approach Christmas Day the measurements of people, places and things grows and grows. Every year I hear the same questions being asked all around me, "what do you want?", "what do you need?".....etc....etc....... Every year I find myself not having a solid answer to respond, I guess that makes me bad, or perhaps I should only look for that lump of coal in the Christmas sock (but just think what happens to coal......it can be the diamond in the works, yes it takes many more years than I have to watch but it does). I hear repeatedly, ohhh, I cannot do portraits now, I need to lose 50 lbs and get a face lift, have my hair grow out, blah blah blah (here again, some more of my own responses to those crazy questions). Talk about a reflection of me........
This year meets me with a flood of emotion. I have sadness, I have happiness, I have excitement and I have dreams. My sadness as this is the first year without my Mother, it's a very difficult time, I don't feel like celebrating, decorating, entertaining because I'm sad, cannot everyone see that.......my happiness as we celebrate the expected birth of Christopher (my grandson), the absolute joy Issy and Evie bring to my life every day, the love of my family and wonderful friends and the celebration of Lyle receiving his masters degree from Regis........ my excitement from soup to nuts, as I like to say, horse bites to butterfly kisses, simple pleasures of dark chocolate and good coffee to that every day feather and a nice glass of wine, to being part of wonderful groups of artists coming together for common interests, like Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep to Help-Portrait to Thank a Soldier.........to my dreams, which drive me to that special place that give me hope, hope that I can share the scenes of the world with my friends, family and clients, dreams of travel to special places near and far, dreams of sharing, dreams of caring, dreams that one day may come, but they still are dreams. So, I'm not really Scrooge, I have my tree decorated, I am planning the celebrations of graduation and Christmas with all the joy and excitement, celebrating Christ. it is not about me...that's the raw truth, that's the message that feeds the fires of all the dreams and plans.....it is giving back, capturing memories, sharing moments, celebrating successes, embracing grief and sadness.
So back to the 12 Days of Christmas....I'm going to close with this, don't wait, don't delay, grab hold of your TODAY, as today becomes your story and tomorrow becomes your dreams. you don't need 12 days to celebrate, you need only your desire and hopes and dreams. If you want it, just ask! I did and I am so glad.
Merry Christmas Everyone, may your holiday season be all that you dream and wish for.
Keep Seeing The Light,
Katherine
Happy Thanksgiving and the Denver Help-Portrait 2010 Project
Happy Thanksgiving, I hope this finds everyone ready for the excitement of the holiday season. Starting off the season with Thanksgiving, and the ever popular Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
This year, our Denver Help-Portrait event has exploded. We are giving back to what looks like hundreds of people on this one day event. Providing professional Hair and Make Up Artists; Santa for the Kiddos. A Free finished Portrait of the family and so much more, to give them a good day and some hope. Because of this explosion, I will be offering a Black Friday through Cyber Monday sale. 2 for 1 Gift Certificates if purchased Friday, 11/26 through Monday 11/29. Purchase one $350 Session Gift Certificate and you will get a second $350.00 Session Gift Certificates Free. I am also going to donate $25.00 from each Gift Certificate Sold during this sale to the Help-Portrait Denver Event. So not only are you giving away a wonderful gift of preserving memories, you are helping the Denver Help Portrait group give back to what appears to be over 600 people at this time and we are still counting with 11 days to go.
This Thanksgiving I am thankful for so much; a healthy family, some awesome clients, amazing friends and a blessed life. Sometimes our lives become overwhelmed with chaos but as the smoke clears and the reflections are in place, it wasn't so bad, as a matter of fact we find ourselves getting back on the horse and going again.... My best experiences with this started with the Outward Bound Trip which I loathed over until the year passed and I reflected back on what actually was a pretty exciting trip both physically and emotionally. Last years' Help-Portrait Event which took us to Local and National News with CNN and Headline News, helping one organization to this year's event where we are committed to several organizations with nearly 10 times the guests participating.
Take time to recognize your blessings and give thanks for all that has come your way. I believe in giving back and even when the world is busy, somehow you can find a way to make someone smile even in the darkest days and hours.
Keep Seeing The Light,
Katherine
November 5.....several irons in the fire
November 5...... this day frankly is bitter sweet. We are less than 30 days from the Help-Portrait Denver Event and we are yet to finalize a location. We are getting close but hopefully will get this done soon so we can get the next several steps in place.
Help Portrait is "A Shift in Thinking......Help-Portrait is a global movement of photographers using their time, gear and expertise to give back to those in need.
Last year, Denver Help-Portrait served the homeless at the St. Francis Center in Denver. This shelter serves 700 homeless a day. Our day included an awesome team of over 66 volunteers. We offered hair cuts, make up and portraits. Our personal gift to the shelter was new socks for the community. This year we are looking to help a larger group, included with the homeless are, "Dress for Success", "Ronald McDonald House", "Safehouse Colorado", Colorado Coalition for the homeless" and many more. We welcome any and all volunteers. You don't have to be a photographer to be part of our special day of giving back. Last year we were on headline news, CNN, Channel 4 and Channel 9. We all came together as a team and gave back to those in need, and in the end, we had a good day. Please feel free to contact me personally if you are interested in joining our Denver team... Our next group meeting is Monday, 11/15/2010 at the REI Starbucks, feel free to come by and check us out and join in if you like.
Fall and October
Fall and October
Fall always comes as a time of reflection for me. I see the changing seasons, the colors of the trees change, the cooler temperatures and preparing for winter.
Having lost my Mom only four months ago, I find myself taking longer looks at the sunrises and sunsets. I treasure each and every feather I find each and every day since she passed away. I also find myself sharing more silent moments. I love sharing my photo field trips with amazing friends. I will be planning the next field trip very soon, so if you want to be part of a field trip, road trip and camping trip to go experience some silent moments with all the beauty that is before us, drop me a note.
This fall, Katherine Payne Photography has offered a very awesome gift to the first 5 families who contact me. So plan to experience the change and spot out the location for your new wall portrait.
The Fall and Winter schedule does get very busy and full, so do not delay getting your images for your holiday cards and gifts.
I am also excited to announce the news that I have another grandchild on the way. What an amazing legacy, watching the children grow and being apart of their lives, my cup runneth over.
Keep seeing the light, take time to enjoy the changes of the seasons, give yourself time to have those silent moments.
August 2010 comes to a close
As August comes to a close, I want to touch on a couple items that have been brought up to me over the past few weeks.
1) NO, it is not the end of Senior Season. If you haven't captured your senior images yet it is not to late, remember, graduation is usually in May which is several months away. So we still have time to capture your session and seniors can earn their personal DVD slide show of their Senior Adventure ask me how. Each school has their own deadline for yearbook submissions. Some schools have deadlines in September, others in October, November and I even have a few seniors that have schools with February 2011 deadlines. I cannot change the deadlines of your school so the yearbook images may or may not be included. Please do not let this determine if you are having your senior pictures captured, its not about a yearbook its about your senior year and Katherine Payne Photography offers the absolute best Senior Adventures around. Even the standard session is an adventure, so give a call and see how we can add to your Senior year with an exclusive Katherine Payne Photography Senior Adventure. Right now, the session fee is crazy affordable if you pre-invest $200 towards your finished images, your session fee is $50. Yes I said $50. If you don't think that is affordable, please drop me a note, I want to hear from you. Even if you went to the Mall Photography Outlets, you won't see them taking you on an Adventure with "REAL" natural backgrounds, not paper or muslin. Now I'm not going to just give it away, you must ask me for the promotion and pay a minimum of $200 towards your finished images by the day of your session. Seniors also earn free wallets. (If you are redeeming a Senior Rep Referral Card, talk about a good day, your session is free when you pre-invest.)
2) NO, not all my images are being uploaded to facebook or myspace. If you really care to know and if you have questions about this, please feel free to contact me personally and I will be happy to share with you all the reasons why you only see limited images and limited clients on my facebook page or the Katherine Payne Photography facebook site. Its not personal its business.
So enjoy the brief sneak peek at Brittany's senior session which we spent the entire day together and captured 4 times the number of images you see in this clip.
Take Care and keep seeing the light.
Profound Thoughts
Sharing some profound thoughts. Sometimes as a professional photographer I get asked a variety of questions, requests and also demands. As I mentor young and upcoming photographers I am met with similar questions and because of this, I am going to share some of my thoughts on a few business thoughts. I am confident that for the most part Photographers are Artists and they want people to enjoy, love and ultimately want their images, so much so that some photographers are known for giving away their images either free or at little cost. Now this isn’t a bad idea if you want to be a hobbyist photographer, and advance some of your skills. However; there is a stigma that comes along with not charging for your work and like it or not you may find yourself in a position which will feel like forever as being known as the “Cheap picture person, photographer, artist, creator (you pick the title, it still is the free or cheap photographer at the end of the day)”. It is extremely hard, if not sometimes impossible, to break out of the stereotype of giving away your images without any regard to your talent once that opinion is set in concrete. That doesn’t even touch on the issue of giving away your digital files to be modified or compromised, that is simply a slap in your face. It takes time to learn and perfect your craft, it takes money to purchase quality professional cameras and lenses (and yes you can purchase a digital SLR and set it to AUTO and shoot in JPG, but that doesn’t make you a professional photographer or an artist) it also takes money to continue your ever growing education, supporting professional organizations in the industry such as PPA, WPPI, etc. (I’ll only add one thought to think about, do you go to a doctor that isn’t board certified or doesn’t hold a license to practice medicine?). Ultimately the “Free/Cheap” photographer is damaging the Professional Industry and not only leaving a forever scar on their potential professional future but the overall integrity of quality portraiture and professional images. I could spend so much time on this that it could bore the frost off of a frozen steak but I’m not going to. My point is simple, you get what you pay for, the experience and ultimate final images are forever and I prefer to think of myself as an image maker and story teller, not a picture taker. Be proud of what you are getting, the piece of art which is being created personally for you of you or your family is not to be taken lightly, it is an heirloom in the works. If you go to an auto dealer, don’t expect your car purchased at “Bullwinkle’s Used Car” to roll out like a new Cadillac Escalade. It just doesn’t work that way. My clients do not go to auto dealers and say “show me the cheapest thing you have on the lot”, they educate themselves in what they are looking for and shop appropriately. Have you ever thought of going to a quality auto dealer and if they have a “cheaper model”, do you not want to ask “WHAT’S WRONG WITH IT”.
Now on the flip side of that coin, I’ll tell you I do want people to love my work and ultimately I make many avenues available so that Katherine Payne Photography is affordable even when it doesn’t appear to be possible. Between my promotions and referral programs, my return clients find updating their wall portraits a matter of routine. I do offer web share/digital files so my clients can share their personal images on Facebook or MySpace or their personal blogs with limited restrictions. I am also willing to sell my digital files on an individual image basis if that is something my client is looking for. I’ve kept an open door to listening to all possible questions and sometimes the answer is yes, so I guess in closing, the best advice I can give is if you want it, need it or desire it, you must first ask for it. My crystal ball doesn’t read the minds of potential clients so make the call, start the dialogue and start a lasting relationship capturing your images and writing your stories.
Look forward to hearing from you!
Best Regards Always
Katherine
Christmas in July - New Promotion Hits the Web
Everyone has heard of Christmas in July and my new promotion is just that. When was the last time someone gave you $500.
This new promotion is awesome. The promotion is easy, when you make your initial $200 investment towards your finished prints prior to your session date, you qualify for the standard session at $50.00 (Standard Session $350, so that is a $300 savings) and for a limited time you also qualify for 2 for 1 prints. So your $200 has a potential $400 print value. That breaks down to your $250.00 investment, easily becoming $750.00 in value and there you have your $500.00, what an exciting deal. This deal is not available on Super Senior Sessions, Ultimate Senior Sessions or Weddings. The 2 for 1 prints are for ordered prints, and cannot be used for Canvas Wall Pieces or Albums. This promotion will run through October 1, 2010 and then it will be pulled, without exception and will not return until 2011.
A few thoughts to consider if you are thinking about using this exciting offer. This is the perfect time to capture your images for Holiday Cards and Gifts so when you are ready to start your holiday shopping, you have one more exclusive gift idea to consider for those special people in your life and on your gift list.
Do you know someone who is expecting, what an awesome gift to give a Maternity Session using this program which will not only allow for priceless maternity images, we include with every Maternity Session a complimentary New Born Session, where within 2 weeks of the new baby coming home we capture priceless images. Here again you have some amazing professional images to use when creating your unique birth announcements, available exclusively through Katherine Payne Photography.
We have lots of sessions available to select from: Family, Children's, Maternity, New Born, Couples, Pet and much much more. The possibilities are endless, if you need some more ideas please feel free to contact me personally I would love to share how we can capture your memories to last a lifetime.
So in closing, "Santa Claus is coming to town.♪♫♪...Santa Claus is coming to town..♪♫♪...Santa Claus is coming to town....♪♫♪......" Happy July and Happy Holidays.
Keep seeing the light....
July 2010 - Update and Thoughts
The past 8 weeks have frankly been a blur. On May 18th, my Mom went into home hospice and her journey was complete on June 4th just after midnight when she went home to be with the Lord. We had her funeral on June 8th and my daughter gave a beautiful eulogy of my Mother's Dash in her eyes. The poem "The Dash" by Linda Ellis was a piece that my Mom personally requested we remember during this time. It is a story of a man who is speaking at a friends funeral and refers to the dates on a headstone, the date you are born and then a dash and the date that you die. The dash is the "important" stuff, its the nuts and bolts of your life, the good, the bad, the crazy, the pain, the excitement, all that is in your life on earth. I become overwhelmed with emotion when I try to express what I am feeling about her passing but what I will say is I do miss her and most of all I miss being able to "give her a call" for all the silly stupid things a daughter calls her mother for.
In an effort to get back to business if that's the PC way, I'm looking at my travel calendar and trying to work out the details. So look for my travel log for dates that I may be in your part of the world. I am sifting through the missed trips since January and will hopefully get those stops back on my books.
Subsequently, I have not updated my blog or the website with new promotions yet, they are coming. This short post is to give a quick note to let you know that I haven't forgotten, just haven't found the energy to sit and contribute. I am still honoring the previously posted promotion which allows for the session to be included when you pre-pay towards finished prints, I expect to change the promotion before the 15th of July so if this is something you are wanting to take advantage of, give me a call.
I have just a couple of spots left for Senior Partners/Reps so if you are interested in being one of Katherine Payne Photography's Senior Partners or Reps please don't delay I really don't like telling people no.
So I'll close for now with a thought in honor of my Mom.
If the dash between the dates is the "important stuff", don't let that pass you by, embrace every opportunity, love one another, especially tell them you love them and believe me, Photographs and Portraits do capture your memories that last a lifetime, take time to schedule those lasting memories.
Keep seeing the light!
May 2010
Wow........sometimes it becomes difficult to talk and share the thoughts that race through my mind. As many of you know, I am facing the end of life with my Mother. She is now on home Hospice and as expected, not doing well, each day has struggles and the sadness continues and the stress mounts.
I'm continuing to work and also spend some much needed valued time with my family, I cannot stress how important these special times are. My grand daughters are the brightest spot in my heart. I'm very lucky to have the opportunity to spend as much time with them as I have.
I am continuing to honor the prepaid special which includes the session fee when clients prepay $150.00 towards their finished print orders. This is an incredible deal so if you are looking for a way to have professional images there is no better way.
I am still waiting for the winner of the "Climb the vine" silent auction certificate.
I will be interviewing for second shooters so if you are interested in working with me on a professional level, please contact me privately.
Senior Reps/Partners will be finalized for the class of 2011, so if you want to be considered as a Katherine Payne Photography Senior Rep/Partner and will be graduating in 2011, I still have a few openings for this awesome experience, so don't wait, contact me soon.
Congratulations to my awesome Seniors for the Class of 2010. YOU ROCK!
I'm going to close this post with hope that all your days are bright and sunny and full of love. Take a moment to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you, although we all know the journey we will ultimately make alone will someday come, when those days approach it is never an easy journey.
Keep seeing the light.
Mothers Day Weekend
Good Morning Saturday, Hello World and Happy Mothers Day to all Mothers. I've said it before and I will continue to say it, everyone has a mother, don't delay tell her you love her. Your Mom may live up the street, in another state, on another continent or even in Heaven. Take a moment to pause this weekend and think of your Mom and send her your love. As many of you know my Mother is in her final journey and this Mothers Day I feel the pain of a broken heart. We are all preparing for her leaving and all the complex stages we are experiencing just magnify the pain with bitter sweet prayers. Life is always so busy, so full of responsibility and obligations that they all take precedence over our days, nights, weekends and holidays.
Fortunately, I have found some release in writing in a journal thoughts of this journey. Waking at 3:30am with sadness and adding a few words here and there to release my tears. Spending some me time capturing some personal images and looking at possible print competition options for some of them, using the creative energy to offer some peace during this very chaotic time.
This post came with apprehension because I always hope to share valuable insight into specials, promotions and upcoming workshops, field trips and Safari's along with some housekeeping items. So for those who are reading looking for those tidbits, here you go. I am still offering until Monday Night any session booked "In Honor Of Mother" will receive special pricing for prints, and webshare images of selected images ordered. It could range from a little to a lot of savings, its up to you. We do not have to capture your images before Monday, we just need to schedule it.
Lost ----- The individual who purchased the Silent Auction item for "Climb The Vine" a certificate valued at over $1500.00 has not validated their certificate. We need to hear from you. Your first session needs to be captured before the end of June to take full advantage of this awesome certificate so don't let the time fly by get in touch with me.
I am finalizing my east coast trips so if you are planning to see me out there, awesome. I'll keep you in the loop with my travel plans.
Keep seeing the light.
Some Late Thoughts and Tax Day Bonus
Where to start. Well, lets start with a few thoughts, sorry they are late but here they are.
As with every April, we all face the tax filing deadline, some of us are excited we get a refund, and some of us are not so excited, we get to pay. I'm one of the later. Every year I dread the process, and it really isn't that painful, it just puts my state of mind into a less than favorable position. That being said, I had great thoughts of posting a Tax Day Special. Now it is April 21st and not the usual April 15th deadline but I'm still in April. ☺
What I would like to present to you are a few areas where those of you who did get a refund might consider sharing some your refund money. I'm going to list a few of my favorite organizations, those near and dear to my heart and I ask you to also check them out and consider making a donation. It may just make you feel good......... Now lets talk about double dipping, here is what I'm going to do. If you do make a donation to any of these charities, send me a note, and what I'm going to do is give you a credit for some amazing images captured by me. That is an incredible Tax Day Special, if I say so myself. The organization gets a piece of the action and you get an awesome reward for doing it. WIN-WIN.
Here is a list of three. You will need to show me that you donated, just saying you donated isn't going to cut it, talk the talk and walk the walk.........
April Showers Bring "SNOW"
Good April Morning everyone. As I woke this morning to snow on the ground following some soft rain I poured my cup of coffee and started to think, how can I, one person, make a difference? I continued to have this early morning conversation with myself, I reminded myself of the many things I do to make a difference and thought why not share.
Through the past few days, I had the honor of meeting some very special families, through Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, where I am a volunteer affiliated professional photographer. I also met another photographer from Colorado who specializes in weddings and wants to "make a difference" and become a photographer for NILMDTS. I reminded myself of the incredible generosity the gift we give to these families with these priceless portraits of their angels. I also reminded myself of the amazing words I've received from these families who I have served and thank God that I have a gift to give. Not every photographer will become an affiliated photographer with this organization; it is not a reflection of the honors on their walls, or the initials after their names or the awards they have received. My point in saying this is simple, if someone wants to be part of giving this type of gift, it does have a price, and you must commit to participate, commit to take the call, and commit to sit and wait, commit to give without any expectation of return. You must walk the walk and not just talk the talk and most of all be a part, not just pretend to be a part and market yourself as a piece of this amazing group, but take actions to commit to this amazing group. Not every photographer should think they should become an affiliated photographer to add to their every growing Professional Business or because they heard "The best Photographer in the world" is part of this group, so they should be part of this too. It's about giving silently, without branding, you are representing a group not yourself, you are a part of an elite group of photographers who give this special gift to these families suffering loss. There is a time to build your business, there is a time to be about "YOU", and this time giving to these families as part of this group is NOT that time. I honestly believe in paying it forward and in working with this group, I feel truly blessed and honored to be affiliated.
I also work with other photographers, from the aspiring hobbyist to the ever successful professional with all levels of coaching and networking. My personal opinion on "helping" my fellow photographers become better at their craft is hard to explain other than, helping them become better and more successful, I also become better and more successful and in the end the industry of Professional Photography is represented by true professionals who have professional level skills and a passion for their craft keeping the integrity of professional photography at the superior level. I remind myself of the way too often comments I hear about "what camera, what lens, what software, blah, blah, blah, blah....." Do you think Michael Angelo was defeated by the tools he had, NO, he used what he knew and that is the first point in perfecting your craft. Know what you have, don't go bankrupt yourself with the latest and greatest in gear so everyone can see you have this or work with that. Believe me, the industry is not stopping with this latest purchase you have made, by the time you get home with that new tool, the company is already well on their way of making the next "latest and greatest" new tool. For many years, I was an exclusive "Film" photographer; I have an amazing collection of film gear. I shoot 99% digital with the occasional film moment. Now I am not for a moment saying that a professional photographer shouldn't have professional gear. Key word, Professional; if you are a professional, are marketing yourself as a professional, you must back yourself up as a professional, don't just say you are part of a professional organization, apply for the membership, pay the price of membership, continue your education and be the honest professional. Many hobbyist take great pictures and the availability of some pretty good equipment at an affordable price is there too, the difference includes education and affiliations. Like the person who has the library of medical text books and a solid understanding of medicine doesn't make them a doctor. On that same note, do you think doctors don't work with other doctors, of course they do and this is also true with professional photographers. Know the difference between the professional and the self professed expert.
Housekeeping items to mention as I close this post:
Senior Reps for Katherine Payne Photographers for the Class of 2011 are being finalized, so if you want to be one of my personal reps, contact me, the perks are priceless.
The International Charity Model Search to benefit NILMDTS is in the final judging stages. The winner of this campaign will be announced in 17 days.
The Denver Help Portrait Group is actively working on the foundation of this year's Help Portrait Event in December, so if you want to be part of this pretty cool event, check us out, contact me personally and I'll direct you to our website and welcome any and all areas of participation, not just photographers.
My Spring special has not been released yet, look for it around the 15th of April, so stay tuned.
As always, thank YOU. YOU are a large part of why I do what I do.
update today
This blog process is not as easy as I thought it would be. I have so many thoughts, some really awesome and worthy of sharing and some are just thoughts that would be hideous to post so. What do you do? I promised to keep up on this so here I am. Early morning, fresh coffee and too cold yet to go out so here is my update today.
I presented a program at the DMFDA meeting last Wedneday evening introducing NILMDTS. I was invited to attend and present at this meeting. We had around 100 attendees and the program was received very well, it was a dinner meeting and yes we were included in their meal, and yes it was yummy. I was very pleased with the reception received and somewhat surprised with how many that had not heard of NILMDTS or the services provided to these families. Thank you for inviting me to attend and present at your meeting and for welcoming my husband and daughter who attended with me.
My travel schedule has had some significant bumps, I was unable to attend PPA's Imaging USA in Nashville for personal reasons with my very ill mother. I was scheduled to attend WPPI Conference in Vegas this year, tickets in toe and didn't make it out of Denver. Not exactly tax donation items. My trip to Arches is going to reschedule due to the Massive Rock Slide on I-70 closing the Interstate in both directions at Glenwood Springs. I'm reading it could be months to complete so this may be a "Summer Family Session Safari" instead of the original Spring Safari.
I have a wedding scheduled the weekend of the Denver Dumb Friends League Furry Scurry so I will not be present during their 100th Year Celebration on Saturday May 1, 2010. This is a little crazy since I've been present and supporting the league for the past 9 years during their annual event. I will be offering a special in honor of the 100th year so stay tuned for more details.
So stay tuned for the ever changing calendar changes, updates and adventures and keep seeing the light.
March..March..March..
It is so crazy, how fast the time passes and to think we are entering the second week of March already is even crazier.
Some Housekeeping Items:
1) Last 3 weeks to capture your Family Session and be included if you want in the International Charity Model Search, proceeds to benefit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.
2) Waiting to hear from the winner of the $1900 silent auction package, time is passing, I need to hear from you by March 28th to register your card.
3) Still looking for a few Senior Reps for the class of 2011. I have secured a couple awesome Seniors so far and looking forward to their Adventure Sessions.
I have put together a couple of promotional videos for Senior Models and Reps. Let me say one more thing. If you like to have fun, want to have the time of your Senior Life and capture the sweetest images. Take a minute and think about the program I have to offer.
I do offer sessions from "Get it done" which I named for those individuals who just want a image for the yearbook and don't want to have the adventure, to "Ultimate Super Senior Sessions" which is best said is a rocking adventure. So whatever you need or want we have it for you. I also am continuing the program to earn your wallets "FREE", yes I said Free. Here are a few ways to earn free wallets with your senior sessions.
1) Get the school yearbook information to KPP as soon as possible, before your session date.
2) Keep your original session appointment
3) Be on time, don't be late
4) Referrals, Referrals, Referrals
Each of these points earn you 8 wallets so out the gate you already have the ability to have 24 wallets before we take your first image and 8 more wallets for every friend you refer to and they schedule their appointment. Sounds like a good idea, especially when so many wallets are used in the Graduation Announcements. Think about it...
Spring is so in the air, everyone I have spoke with is having some serious cabin fever and although we don't have the full bloom of spring we still have some great locations to capture your family sessions.
My Professional Session Special is back by popular demand so another way to make those professional images happen for you.
Now on a personal Note:
Family is so very important to me, not only the family God gave me naturally but the family that has evolved through my life. I've had many very important individuals leave my life and "move" to heaven if you will. My passion for photography has given me the ability to "capture" timeless memories and I cannot even begin to express how important these image are to me. Some images I cherish are frankly, not good photographs but they are all I have so to answer a question that was recently asked of me "Why would you give so much away or make such offers in your business?" well, my answer to that particular question is because if I can give one gift to someone that can spark the memory or bring them closer to the ones they have lost, than it is all worth it, God gave me the gift of photography and also gave me the gifts of my dear friends, its kind of my duty to give back for him.
Thanks for visiting and listening.
Keep seeing the light!
Hello All, We've reached the final days to capture your personal session for valentines day. What an incredible gift you are giving to your sweetheart this Valentine's Day, they are going to love your "Personal Private Showing".
Valentine's day is not the only time of year you can create and give such a personal gift and what better way to capture this time in your life than with professional images. Now I think we've probably all seen some "home grown" attempts at Boudoir images, I know I have and uhhhh, not a good result, so if you want this personal "Pin Up" collection don't try to capture it yourself, or have your friend with their new digital camera come over, schedule your personal session in the privacy of your home. I do not do "Pin Up Parties", my sessions are always private this is not a girls night out event. I'd love to talk to you about scheduling your personal session.
Now to Vancouver and the 2010 Olympic Games - With the Olympics starting this Friday, February 12, 2010, I wish I could be there, however; in the spirit of the games, I will be giving away a winter games session to one lucky person. This session will not only include a day to capture your selected session, you select the session, family, personal boudoir*, maternity, baby etc...... I will include a portfolio with eight of your favorite images. This is a $500 value and you will have until July to use this certificate. Now all you have to do is send me your name, address, e-mail address and phone number to info@katherinepaynephotography.com include in your subject line Vancouver 2010 Give A Way. You can include a little note with which session you would love to win (not required to win). The winner will be selected on February 28th during the Closing Ceremony. The winner will be notified by e-mail and personal phone call. I will post the last name of the winner on the blog March 1, 2010. You can enter every day but only once per day. *Boudoir sessions are adult only, must be of legal age to schedule this session.
So Let The Games Begin.
Website Updated
Well I feel like I met the checkered flag. I finally got my website updated some. Not perfect, never enough time in the day or days in the week to spend on it. My passion is taking portraits, not living at the computer. I have added many more categories, I now have a Charity page which includes Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, Help-Portrait and Portraits of Love.
I've broken up the Gallery, I now have 10 sub catigories: Weddings, Portraits, Senior Portraits, Headshots, Pets, Nature and Landscape (Including Fine Art), Babies and Children, Maternity and Boudoir, Special Events and Commercial. Posting well over 400 images in these categories, everyone should have a good idea of my style and passion.
I'm excited to have so many beautiful people and awesome clients featured on my website and I am also sad that I cannot include all my awesome clients. For those of you who have requested not to be published, I still honor that request and you are missed but I know you are there.
I have made a point to now try and visit the blog often so to keep in touch with everyone.
This will be a rather short post but I would recomend you visit the website at http://www.katherinepaynephotography.com/ if you haven't lately and check out all the new images.
By popular demand, my 2010 Professional Session Promotion is giving that Session Free with the pre-payment of $150 for prints. You cannot beat this deal, it is a $350.00 value.
Valentine's Day is coming really soon, but if you want that private session for your special Valentine, give me a call and lets get it booked. If we can get it captured by the 10th, I've promised you will have your finished DVD Slideshow ready to deliver to your Honey.
Well, thats all for now and lets keep seeing the light.
